Cone Beam Imaging
Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) reconstructs 3-diminsional images of the teeth, jaw, and other maxillofacial regions. CBCT used in dentistry is an application of medical CT.
CBCT provides 3-Dimensional imaging opposed to conventional 2-D dental radiographs.
Traditional dental X-rays are limited by depicting a 3-D structure in 2-D. CBCT imaging results in increased predictably of treatment outcome by giving the dentist the most information possible in the diagnostic and planning stages.
Benefits of CBCT imaging:
View anatomy that can't be diagnosed externally or from traditional 2-D X-rays
Accurate analysis of position and orientation of critical structures
Low dose of radiation
